What I typically see is one or two licenses of Crystal installed internally for the person (or team) working on changing invoices and other reports. That often results in an inconsistent message presented to customers and a possibly big mess in your GP environment longer term which can easily turn into a nightmare when someone leaves or when you're doing a GP upgrade. Most companies do not want to have multiple versions of invoice formats floating around with no central control. Using either Crystal or Word/Report Writer. Of course these are very general statements, without knowing anything about your environment, needs or expertise.Īs far as multiple people being able to change the Word Template vs. For larger changes, unless you had someone extremely well versed in Dex and/or Report Writer in-house, you would probably still need a consultant and it would likely take a lot longer (ie cost more) for any significant changes in Report Writer than it would in Crystal. If you're talking about small changes, you could probably get an hour or two of Crystal Reports training and be self sufficient with no problem. IMHO, Crystal is about 100 times easier to use than Report Writer, even without having to add in Word Templates.
